Equipment Philosophy
You are welcome to bring and use whatever training tools you currently use or want to learn about—this includes flat collars, harnesses, prong collars, slip leads, head halters, e-collars, etc. During your time with us, we’ll walk you through why or why not certain tools or techniques may be used depending on the dog, context, and training goals. Our goal is to equip you with the knowledge and discernment to make informed decisions about what works best for each dog and situation—not just what’s trendy or popular.
What You’ll Learn
Throughout your time in the program, you’ll receive in-depth instruction, observation, and real-time feedback in the following areas: - Handler Mechanics: Develop timing, leash handling, body language, and voice control to clearly communicate with dogs. - Structured Daily Routines: Learn how crate time, feeding, walk structure, and play boundaries contribute to a balanced, stable dog. - Training Tools & Techniques: Understand how and when to use flat collars, prong collars, e-collars, slip leads, and long lines, and the philosophy behind each. - Behavioral Observation & Problem Solving: Read body language, identify drive states, and troubleshoot issues like leash reactivity, over-arousal, and impulsive behavior. - Obedience Skills: Teach and reinforce core behaviors including leash walking, sit, down, place, recall, and crate entry. - Client Coaching: Practice articulating training concepts to real clients, including correcting miscommunication and setting expectations. - Environmental Exposure: Work dogs through new and distracting environments, building neutrality, confidence, and emotional stability. - Shaping Calmness & Impulse Control: Implement protocols that help dogs de-escalate, build patience, and regulate arousal levels.
