Puppy Services

Have you welcomed a new addition to your family? If you’ve recently gotten a puppy, you know the joy and excitement of this time also comes with lots of adjustments and effort as you help your new pack member adjust to your home and routine.

In addition to helping your newcomer adjust, training your puppy is essential. Training allows dogs to learn proper behavior, such as where it’s acceptable to go to the bathroom (NOT on your brand-new carpet!) and how to socialize with other dogs, animals, and people.

That’s why Nova Pack Dog Training offers puppy training services. We support you in making the most of your training time with your new fur baby so they can adjust with minimal stress to your home and your family.

What Services Do We Offer?

Nova Pack Dog Training offers a variety of puppy training services in Northern Virginia based on your needs, your budget, and your puppy.

Puppy Day School

***Unavailable at this time***

Puppy Day School is designed for puppies between eight weeks and five months of age.

We offer three or five sessions per week monthly subscriptions.

Drop-off at 8 a.m and pick-up at 4 p.m, Monday through Friday.

This program is meant to provide essential training, such as:

- Addressing nipping, biting, and jumping

- Crate training

  • - Acclimating to new environments

  • - Potty training

- Socialization around other dogs and people to create neutrality

Our program provides training exercises, supervised playtime, and environmental work for puppies. It helps puppy parents provide care for their new pack members during the day while incorporating training and socializing to build a strong foundation for a happy and healthy life.

Puppy Day School is an excellent opportunity for early learning and development for young dogs.

In-Home Training

Nova Pack Dog Training also offers in-home training for puppies. First, we come out for an initial consultation and evaluation of your home, the puppy’s primary environment, and, of course, your pup! We discuss basic training, your goals for your new pack member, and how we can help.

In-home training can help your dog develop the essential skills they need to thrive in your home and their lives. We can work with your pup on everything we address in our Puppy Day School program, but in the comfort of your own home and at a pace that works for you and your dog.

Board and Train

We offer a 2 week board-and-train program if you’d rather us take on your puppy’s training completely. Our program will get your pup off to the right start and provide a strong foundation for them to thrive. For puppies between eight weeks and five months of age.

Puppies have a crucial socialization and learning period. We help them make the most of that time by focusing on developing their confidence, skills, and learning so they can be the happiest and healthiest pup they can be, and you can hit the ground running with their additional training once they’re done!

Why Training Your Puppy Is Crucial for You, Your Dog, and Your Family

Puppy training is much more than getting your dog to do what you want and behave in ways that are appropriate. Puppy training is about building positive behaviors, motivation, and confidence.

Training your puppy is crucial for you, your dog, and your family because your puppy will learn what is allowed, what isn’t acceptable, and how to socialize with people and other animals. While food training is a huge part of working with puppies, we don’t want the dog to simply learn to follow commands for food, as it makes transitioning away from it later on, much more difficult.. We want your puppy to understand that you are in charge of the relationship, which is very important in the long run.

Without proper training, many puppies develop confidence and behavioral problems that follow them throughout their lives. Puppies may be fearful of other people and animals, even becoming aggressive in certain environments. Dogs may be anxious and unable to be left alone. Some dogs may never be able to acclimate to the family in a way that is acceptable.

What Can Puppy Training With Nova Pack Dog Training Do for My Dog?

Puppy training has big benefits for both you and your dog! Puppy training can specifically help with:

Aggression. Fearful puppies may develop aggressive behaviors, such as biting, growling, and lunging at other animals or people. Training builds their confidence and establishes a healthy sense of trust and safety.

Anxiety and fear. Puppies can show signs of anxiety and fear without proper socialization and training, especially in certain situations or around new people or animals.

Biting and mouthing. Very young puppies tend to bite and nip objects, people, and other animals, which can be concerning for new puppy parents. We teach your dog good manners when around other people, animals, and in new environments.

Crate training issues. Crate training your puppy is an excellent way to ensure their safety when you are not at home, but some puppies are initially resistant to crate training or anxious about being confined. Puppy training can help them feel safe and happy in their crate.

Lack of manners. Many puppies lack basic manners—they will jump on people, eat things they are not supposed to, or display other undesirable behaviors. Proper training helps them understand how they are expected to behave and reward them for doing so.

Leash pulling and biting. Leash pulling and biting the leash are common issues with untrained puppies and can make walks and outings stressful for both you and your dog. Let’s get your puppy walking like a model citizen so you both can enjoy your walks!

Reactivity toward other dogs. Puppies that are not trained and socialized can become reactive and even aggressive toward other dogs, making social interactions difficult and stressful. With the right training, we help your puppy become confident and learn good behaviors around other animals.

Recall challenges. Untrained puppies may not come when called or respond appropriately and promptly to demands, which can lead to safety issues for your pup.

Separation anxiety. Puppies can develop separation anxiety and become anxious and stressed when left alone, making it difficult to leave your pup alone at home for periods of time.

It’s important to understand that these issues will not go away on their own. Once the dog develops a behavior, it takes work to undo the learned response. These problematic behaviors will often worsen over time and cause major challenges in your home and your interactions with your dog.

You can give your dog their best life by starting off on the right paw with puppy training. Proper training and socialization will give your pup their best chance to live a happy and healthy life!
